As a crucial part of my design strategy for the building programming that was highlighted earlier during site analysis, was to design the building in a way that integrates the various levels found at the existing site. In my finalised scheme, by creating access to the building from the 3 different levels of various heights with in it's site surrounding will allow the monumentally building to act as a key stature of 'connection' and hence encourage pedestrian influx from different directions within the local area.
External Inter-level Connection
From the bridge level it enters into the restaurants complex and then out through a ramp that links footfalls directly to the canal bank. On the other hand the flight of stairs that wraps around the vertical bar provides access between all levels. The adjacent landscape is also gently sloped that provides connection from ground level to the canal bank.
Internal Inter-level Connection
The wide terraced steps acts well as a space for temporary market pop ups as well as a experiential promenade when descending from the ground level to the canal level, during midway of this descend it also has a flight of stairs that diverts access to the internal basement. In the centre of the building is placed a lift that provides all levels access. In addition, on the north east corner also features a spiral stair case that connects the internal ground level to the basement.
